About UniMelb Grading
Melbourne's example: two 12.5-point subjects with 76% and 67% and a 37.5-point subject with 81% give 4825 ÷ 62.5 = 77.200. A 25-point subject weighs double a 12.5-point one, and most undergraduate subjects are 12.5 points.
Why Your Average Matters at UniMelb
The WAM appears on your academic transcript, AHEGS and statement of results if you commenced your course after 1 January 2010, and it is sometimes used to assess applications for further study, employment and scholarships. We did not find university-wide WAM thresholds for honours or distinction in the pages checked.
UniMelb Grading Note
The University of Melbourne reports a Weighted Average Mark (WAM), which it describes as much like the GPA used by many other universities; we found no Melbourne GPA scale. Subject grades are H1 (80%–100%), H2A (75%–79%), H2B (70%–74%), H3 (65%–69%), P (50%–64%) and N (0–49%). For the same WAM rules side by side with other universities, use the WAM calculator at /wam-calculator/.
UniMelb Accuracy Scope
Melbourne calculates the WAM to three decimal places (its example is 77.200%); this calculator shows two. Failed subjects count at their mark, and NH is recorded as 49. Subjects with no mark, pass/fail subjects, withdrawn subjects and credit for study at another institution are left out. Results from 2020 and the second half of 2021 flagged ^ count only if they are at or above your benchmark WAM, so leave them out if your transcript flags them.
Tips for UniMelb Students
- Enter credit points: most undergraduate subjects are 12.5, and a 25-point subject counts double.
- Keep failed subjects in: their percentage mark counts towards the WAM.
- A continuing subject counts only once its final mark is recorded, weighted by all of its points.
Common WAM Mistakes at UniMelb
Using the H2A and H2B bands of another university. At Melbourne H2A is 75%–79% and H2B 70%–74%, and H1 starts at 80%.
