About the Otago GPA System
In an illustrative set, AE at 18 points, FC at 18 and B at 36 give (9 × 18 + 0 × 18 + 5 × 36) ÷ 72 = 4.75, displayed as 4.8. Changing FC to an excluded AG means omitting that row, not entering zero: the remaining 54 points average 6.3.
Otago Grading Note
Otago uses a nine-point, paper-points-weighted GPA. AE and A+ earn 9. D, E, DS, FC, FD, FE and FT count as zero. AG and ungraded F/P results are excluded, as are withdrawn, incomplete and transferred-credit results.
Otago Accuracy Scope
This tool displays one decimal, as Otago’s regulations specify for academic records. Annual, course-level and cumulative GPAs use different paper sets: enter only the papers for the measure you need. A scholarship or professional programme may specify its own selection rules; this is not a scholarship eligibility decision.
GPA Tips for Otago Students
- AE (A+ Distinction) and AG (aegrotat pass) are not interchangeable.
- Leave out zero-point papers and credit transferred from another institution.
