About the Open Polytechnic GPA System

A 15-credit A, a 30-credit Pass and a 15-credit FC produce (8 × 15 + 5 × 30 + 0 × 15) ÷ 60 = 4.50. An additional 60-credit EX does not change that result. This planning example is not an official transcript or admissions determination.

Open Polytechnic Grading Note

Multiply each included final course grade point by its credits, then divide the sum by the included credits. Pass and AEG both contribute 5. Fail, AEF, FC and DNC contribute 0 but their credits still count. Leave CC, EX and GP out: they have no GPA point value.

Open Polytechnic Accuracy Scope

This tool covers courses developed by Open Polytechnic under its published course-grade table. It does not cover the externally set Bachelor of Engineering Technology or New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Level 6) scales, nor individual assessment-component grades. Check your programme regulations if a different scale applies.

GPA Tips for Open Polytechnic Students

  • Enter final course results, not assessment marks.
  • Use course credits as weights. Count failed courses with published zero values.
  • A Pass is worth 5 here; do not copy another institution’s pass exclusions.
